I’ve landed a job at a new company and they need my previous work experience details. Back in 2016, I worked at a small consultancy firm. When I left, they refused to give me a relieving letter because I hadn’t completed a year there, even though I trained and handed over my work to my replacement. I had to leave because of their unfair treatment, despite serving my full 15-day notice period (it was supposed to be one month). They even withheld my last month’s salary. Is there a way I can get this letter from them now? Should I email them? Do I have legal grounds to ask for it? They did release my PF amount when I asked, would that help to prove my employment? What’s the best course of action? I was working at a senior management level.

Hi everyone, I need some advice. I’ve been working at an NBFC for the past three years, but I want to switch to the banking sector. I submitted my resignation with a 30-day notice period on December 20th, 2016. However, after 15 days, my company abruptly transferred me to Kerala on January 6th, 2017, even though I was working in Jalandhar, Punjab. The HR department told me I had to choose between working in Kerala or leaving the company, but they refused to give me a relieving letter. This transfer was completely unexpected and without any prior notice. I have 21 leave days remaining, and I’ve already served my 15-day notice period. I started a new job on June 27th and received my first paycheck, for just four days of work in June (around ₹3,200), after July 15th. When I deposited the cheque on July 30th, it bounced. I informed my employer right away, but the issue hasn’t been resolved. I ended up leaving the job in August.
