My wife’s mother is her father’s second wife, born after his passing. He left a registered “vyawasthapatra” for 2 acres of agricultural land in her name, prohibiting sale or gifting, valid until her death. My wife is his only daughter. The land is also shared by his first wife’s three daughters, their two sons, and my wife and her mother, a total of 7 people, holding a 7/12 share (2.73 hectares). His first wife’s sons don’t seem interested in the land. My wife’s mother is 75 years old and unable to work. Could you advise who will inherit the 2 acres after her passing, considering the “vyawasthapatra” and the existing co-ownership?

Hi there,We’re a new apartment association in Bangalore, and we’re facing a tricky situation. A couple of owners haven’t been paying their maintenance dues, despite our repeated requests. Our byelaws state that after two months of non-payment and a 15-day notice, we can disconnect their water supply. Is this legally permissible, or could it be considered a criminal offence? My brother was allotted land by the government in 1976, but I’ve been living on it with my children and grandchildren for the past 40 years. He never lived there. In 2013, he filed a case against me and in 2014, the court put a stop to any construction on the land. This dairy plot is now causing me problems because I can’t improve it. My father gifted me our ancestral home in India. My uncle, who owned the property next door, sold it to a neighbour 25 years ago. We’ve always shared a common wall peacefully. Now, after I started renovating my house, the new owner claims his property is 2 feet smaller than what’s on paper. He refused to show me his documents and threatened legal action.
