I’m planning to purchase a flat. However, I’m missing a property mutation extract from 1980-1981. I have the latest extracts from 2002-2003 and 2004-2005. My father, a resident of Maharashtra, passed away a few years ago without leaving a will. He owned 8 acres of farmland and a house, both acquired through his own hard work. I bought a flat under construction in Pune back in 2015, with a promised delivery date of December that year. It’s now years later and I still haven’t received possession. My agreement clearly states a 9% interest payment for any delays. The builder is ignoring my calls and emails. When I finally got through, they said they’ll only pay compensation if I don’t want the flat! This is completely unfair and not in our contract. I want to get my flat and the compensation I’m owed. The Supreme Court recently clarified that the new law regarding daughters’ rights in ancestral property only applies if both the daughter and father are alive when it came into effect. This means a daughter would inherit a share in her father’s ancestral property in Mumbai only if both of them were alive after the law changed. But my family is concerned – does this also apply to property our father acquired on his own, not through inheritance? The judgment doesn’t specifically address this, and we’d like to know if this law impacts self-acquired property in Mumbai too.

Respected sir, I have ancestral agricultural land in Gudha Gor, Udaipurwati tehsil, Jhunjhunu district, Rajasthan. I had filed a petition in the court regarding a dispute over the land (case no. 74/15). On June 2, 2015, I was summoned to the camp court and was asked to sign a document stating that I didn’t have possession of the land.
