My grandfather received land documents, the Chitta and Adangal, from the government over 5 decades ago. When I contacted the Village Administrative Officer (VAO), he said the Chitta is outdated and can’t be used for a new Patta. But the new Patta doesn’t include my grandfather’s name. I need to find out how the ownership changed and who sold our land. Can I get my land back if I apply to the authorities? Please advise.

My grandfather had two sons and a daughter. His older son is still alive, but his younger son passed away some time ago. My aunt, his daughter, is married. My grandfather sadly passed away in 2003. We’re planning to sell the land he owned, but my uncle’s daughters (all married now) are demanding a larger share of the inheritance. We’ve explained that legally, they’re entitled to half of their father’s portion. They’re refusing to sign the sale documents unless they get more. Who needs to sign the registration papers to complete the sale: just my uncle and his brother’s wife, or everyone including the grandchildren?

In 1991, I bought a plot from a real estate company that owned land across two neighbouring villages in different districts of the same state. The company provided a sale deed for a share of the land in one village and handed over possession of my plot.
