My husband abandoned me and our two children, a boy (now 17) and a girl (now 16), back in 2006. He filed for divorce and left me with a temporary job paying a meager 1700 rupees. I only learned about the divorce case through a newspaper ad in 2008 and immediately filed for maintenance. My current income is less than 17,000 rupees, while his salary is reportedly 60,000 or more. The divorce and maintenance cases were merged, and he has since filed for divorce again. We’ve been married for 21 years. He’s a government employee. I’m worried about the future of my children and me. What kind of maintenance can I expect for us? If I decide to go through with the divorce, what kind of financial settlement and property division can I anticipate? Isn’t it unfair that the case has dragged on for 8 years (2008-2016)? Is there anything else I can do? With my current earnings, I have no financial security for my children or myself.

I’m looking to buy a 1700 sq ft plot (30×60). It’s part of a layout approved around 25 years ago. The seller bought it in 1989 from the original landowner, who gave the power of attorney to someone else. The seller got the ‘patta’ in 2010 and has the original sale deed and a copy of the power deed, but no original or copy of the mother deed. He’s owned the plot since 1989 and there’s no record of any transaction since then in the EC. Is this a safe purchase? Would I be able to get a home loan for this property?
