My family is Hindu. I’m the elder brother, and I registered a settlement deed with my younger brother for my land. The agreement was that he would get the right to the first floor after repaying my loan, and meanwhile, I allowed him to build his house there.Later, he started disrespecting me and my wife. I live in Hari Nabi, Shuru 24 Pabana, and registered the deed at ADSR Sonarpur. My father pressured me to sign some papers, claiming they were consent letters. He threatened me, saying he would tell my boss I wasn’t taking care of my parents and that my son would suffer. Scared, I signed.Now, I’m worried these papers could be a Power of Attorney (POA), giving him power to change the terms of the registered settlement deed. Can he do this at the Registrar of Assurance in Kolkata, even though I got an encumbrance certificate from ADSR Sonarpur that’s clear until 2014? I need legal advice.

My car got hit by a bike while I was driving within our company’s living quarters. I was on my usual route and taking a turn when the accident happened. I bought a two-bedroom flat in a Pune suburb (Undri- Pisoli) in August 2012, with a promised completion by December 2013. Since I planned to resell the flat after completion, I didn’t register it. I’ve made almost 90% of the payments, but the builder hasn’t finished some work like installing a lift and the sewage treatment plant. Some families started moving in from November 2015. Now, due to personal reasons, I want to register the flat and get the agreement. When I asked the builder for the required documents and registration charges, he refused until I pay the remaining balance. Is he right to do this? What should I do? Please advise.

Namaste! I’m facing a bit of a dilemma. My father’s name is “Keshav Prasad Gupta” on his official documents, but in my 10th and 12th marksheets it’s simply “Keshav Prasad”.
