My wife and I are going through a divorce in India. Both families agreed to the separation, and my family returned her jewellery, paid 4 lakhs in cash, and promised to pay another 4.5 lakhs upon finalization. This is all documented in a police agreement. However, my family needs a power of attorney stamped by the High Commission of India to proceed with the divorce. My in-laws are threatening my family, claiming they have influence with the Punjab police, politicians, and lawyers.
