My family and I live on the top floor of a two-storey cooperative society building in Virar, Maharashtra. Recently, a large chunk of the ceiling collapsed, seriously injuring my child. We’ve begun repairs, but the problem stems from an old leak that the society tried to fix by adding a roof. The ceiling decayed unnoticed, despite promises in past meetings that the society would handle such repairs. Can we sue the society for the repair costs and medical expenses? They had a responsibility to fix the ceiling before adding the roof.

We’ve been renting a house and paid a 1 lakh deposit to the landlord. Now, he’s asking us to leave, claiming we waste water. Our lease expired, and we weren’t planning to renew as we were moving. My landlord and I signed a rent agreement on a â‚¹100 stamp paper, which was notarized and filed with the police station and our society. The agreement clearly states a 24-month lease period from December 2014 to December 2016, and I’ve already given him 24 rent cheques.
