I moved out of my rented house and gave the keys back to the owner and broker. They were late to collect the deposit, so I left the keys and vacated the property. Unfortunately, one of the movers left a tap running, causing flooding in the house and damage to the unit below. Now the owner is claiming we’re responsible for the entire cost of repairs. My family and I have been living in a rented house in Mumbai for a long time. My father was born in this house, and it’s been over 50 years since then. We have a shop, used for maintaining our Hindu temple, that was rented out 50 years ago without a formal agreement. We used to receive a monthly rent of â‚¹25, which we documented with receipts.
