My family has been renting a shop for the last 20 years. We have a rent agreement but it doesn’t mention any specific end date. We recently learned the landlord is selling the property. Our family in Mumbai faced a difficult situation when the tenants above us installed a bathtub without any permission from the BMC or our building society. This caused a heavy leak, filling six buckets of water every three hours, which eventually led to our ceiling plaster collapsing and injuring my 82-year-old father. My landlord and I renewed our lease for my rented house in February 2015, initially for 11 months. We then renewed again in January 2016, extending it to December 2016. My family has been renting our apartment for over 70 years. We’re supposed to pay rent this month, but the landlord says we should pay the new developer instead. The problem is, we haven’t agreed to this developer yet! The landlord gave us all a photocopy of a letter, but it doesn’t say anything about the developer taking rent. Who should I pay, and how? My family has lived in a house owned by an akhara for almost 70 years. Recently, the manager demanded â‚¹50,000 for repairs, which we paid. He promised our rent wouldn’t increase beyond â‚¹1,100.
