My family is strictly vegetarian and we ordered food from a restaurant listed as “Pure Veg” on Foodpanda. However, the food we received contained non-vegetarian ingredients. The restaurant claims they recently changed their menu, but Foodpanda hasn’t updated their listing. Foodpanda states they’re not liable as the food was prepared by the restaurant. Can I file a case against both Foodpanda and the restaurant for misleading advertising and serving non-vegetarian food in a vegetarian dish? What compensation should I seek?

A high-rise building in Thane, constructed in 1988 and registered as a CHS in 2000, received development permission from the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC). An architect submitted revised plans in 2009, but the construction was completed without adhering to fire safety regulations. Despite this, the TMC issued an occupation certificate in March 2013 under the Development Control Regulations (DCR).The Fire Department, after inspecting the building, deemed it unsafe for habitation and urged the Additional Deputy Town Planner (ADTP) to take necessary action. The TMC Commissioner in Thane instructed the ADTP, but no investigation or report was filed. This raises concerns about violations of the Fire Act, MRTP, DCR, BMC Act, Mofa, and even consumer rights.The residents continue to pay property tax and water bills diligently. What action can be taken to address this situation?

We, a group of 12 residents from a large Bangalore apartment complex (over 1000 units), filed a joint complaint with the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) in April 2016 against the builder. We were the first to file such a complaint regarding this specific project, and our case does not represent other residents. The NCDRC allowed our joint complaint as our grievances were identical – poor service, fraudulent practices, and lack of occupancy certificate, among others. However, a recent NCDRC judgment on October 7, 2016, concerning “class suits” seems contradictory. We are concerned if this new ruling could lead to the dismissal of our joint complaint and require us to refile individually, even though our complaint was accepted under Section 12(1)(c)? We would appreciate any insights to clear our confusion and alleviate our concerns.
