Our narrow street in Delhi is just 10 feet wide. Almost everyone has stairs that take up more than 3 feet of the street space, and some even encroach more than 4 feet onto the road. Yet, our stairs are only 2.5 feet wide and barely take up any space. Despite this, the MCD demolished them without warning or proper orders, solely based on our neighbor’s complaint. I’m certain the JE was bribed, as everyone knows that if a 2.5-foot stair is illegal, then all the larger ones must be too. What can we do to get justice in this unfair situation?

My aunt got married in 1972. To help her, our grandfather gifted her an acre of land in 1974 and sold another half acre to repay her wedding loan. Later, she sold the gifted acre to someone else, and we have the registration and sale documents. My father has earned 300 square yards of land. He gifted 100 square yards, 50 square yards, and 50 square yards to my siblings and me. The remaining 100 square yards, where we built a two-storey building using joint funds, is still in his name. Twenty years ago, my father, an agriculturist, along with his younger brother, a doctor, and elder brother, an inspector, agreed to divide their ancestral property and their individual holdings. However, while dividing the property, the doctor and inspector didn’t include their personal assets. They only divided my father’s and grandfather’s property. We lack documents for any of the property, including my father’s share, as all documents are with the inspector. They only provided us with a photocopy of the division agreement. I bought a property in India through a General Power of Attorney (GPA) from my mother in 2012 while I was living overseas. The GPA hasn’t been cancelled in the Sub-Registrar’s Office (SRO) yet. I’m now back in India and want to sell the property. Should I sell it directly as the owner, or through my mother since the GPA is still active? Would selling without cancelling the GPA be legally valid? Is there any specific affidavit I need? Or, would my mother signing as a witness during the sale be enough to validate the transaction?
