My father, before passing away, bought a property in my and my brother’s names. Now, my mother and sister are seeking a share in it. The sale deed, index 2, and 7/12 extract are only in my and my brother’s names. Since my father paid for the property, will my sister and mother get a share? Or will it be divided only between me and my brother as it was in our names from the beginning? My father didn’t leave a will, he simply bought it in our names. I’m really stressed out! Back in October, a customer who’d bought from me twice before, asked for a cheque because the banks were closed for Diwali. He gave me a cheque for ₹2,500 on the 8th, but it bounced because his account was empty. He’s been making promises to pay in cash but keeps dodging me and now won’t even answer my calls. I told him I’d take legal action, but he just brushed it off. Now I really want to pursue this, but how do I go about it? Can I handle it myself, or do I need a lawyer?
