My marriage ended tragically just two years ago. My wife left after only a fortnight, accusing my parents of demanding dowry, a claim completely untrue. Since then, she’s refused to return and, with her family, has been harassing and publicly insulting my parents and younger siblings, threatening to falsely accuse us of dowry-related crimes. They constantly cite the law as favoring women and threaten to arrest our entire family. I filed for divorce a few days ago. What steps can I take to protect my family from false accusations under Section 498A or any other charges they might plan? The entire family is deeply distressed by the situation.

My brother, married under Hindu law, is facing difficulties in his marriage. It’s been a year and a half, and differences of opinion, ego clashes, and distress from his wife have led him to consider divorce. They have no children. Both are Hindu, but his wife is not agreeable to a mutual separation. We are planning to send a divorce notice. Would it be better to file for divorce now or after a year of living separately? If the latter is more advantageous, I would appreciate knowing the benefits. Thanks for your advice.

My mother married in 1958. In 1960, her husband married again, right in front of her! She endured this humiliation and domestic abuse from his family, and left with her two-year-old daughter to live with my grandfather. She raised me and got me married, all while working on the farm every day. My father never gave her a single rupee. Now she’s over 70, and I’m over 50. My wife filed three cases against me in Kanpur, UP in 2012: 125 CRPC, 498A, and domestic violence. Recently, the fast track court ordered me to pay her â‚¹5,000 per month as interim maintenance under 125 CRPC, even though I submitted proof of my income, responsibilities, and her education and work history. The case is ongoing.My questions are:1. Could the monthly maintenance amount increase beyond the current â‚¹5,000 after the case concludes?2. She’s demanding â‚¹10,000 per month in the domestic violence case, a room and bathroom in my Ahmedabad house (owned by my father), and wants to return home. Is it possible she could still get â‚¹10,000 per month and a room in my house, considering she’s already receiving â‚¹5,000 from me under 125 CRPC?3. What about the 498A case, given she’s already getting â‚¹5,000 per month from me as maintenance? She has been living in Kanpur since June 2012.
