My husband and I have been married for 16 years. We have two sons, 13 and 7 years old. Our marriage has always been difficult, but for the last year, my husband has been asking me to leave and take the children with me to my mother’s house. He claims he can’t afford to support us because he doesn’t work, but I know this isn’t true. He has the means to support us. My wedding was in April 2014, and within a year, my husband became violent. He even tried to hurt me seriously. I went to the police station in Mysore, but to protect my family, I filed a Non-Cognizable Report (NCR). He promised the officers he would change and asked me to stay with my parents in Bangalore for a week. But just two days later, he sent me divorce papers and filed a dowry harassment case. Even in family counselling, he refused to work on our marriage. He also has all my jewelry. I’m lost and don’t know what to do. I can’t afford a lawyer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
