I’m a wedding photographer in Delhi. I agreed to a contract for a wedding shoot, taking half the payment upfront with the rest due after delivery. My client paid half in cash and half by cheque, but the cheque bounced the next day! Now they won’t answer my calls, and won’t give me back my hard drives with the photos. We had a contract, but they never signed it. What can I do to get my payment and my photos back? Is this a lost cause?

My close friend and I started a business together, but unfortunately, it didn’t work out. He mentioned wanting to pursue further studies and had some financial burdens. He asked me to give him cheques worth Rs. 25,000 every month for 3 years to help him study. I didn’t owe him anything, but I gave him the cheques as a gift for his education. I borrowed ₹1.1 lakhs from a friend in March 2015, promising to repay within two months. However, I faced difficulties and couldn’t repay on time. Under pressure, I signed a blank promissory note and issued a check for ₹1 lakh, which bounced. My friend sent a notice demanding ₹1 lakh for the bounced check and ₹5 lakhs based on the promissory note. They claim I intentionally wrote the wrong amount on the note.
