My previous employer, a software company, took a security deposit of â‚¹1 lakh from me. They returned â‚¹82,500 in installments over a year, but the remaining â‚¹17,500 came as a cheque that bounced. I contacted the company but haven’t received a response. I have a bank memo confirming the bounced cheque. Can I take this issue to consumer court? If so, how long would it take to resolve? Should I file the case against the person who signed the cheque or the company directors? What are the steps I need to take?

I’m from Hyderabad and gave a cheque to a local agency in Jaipur. The agency closed in 2014, and the cheque was stopped. The company deposited the cheque in Jaipur despite no outstanding dues with the local agency. The local agency reopened in 2014, and I dealt with the company before the agency opened. They issued the cheque for security purposes. Before that, some pending CF forms and bills were sent to my office without my knowledge. I stopped some CF forms. How do I handle this situation? My friend owes me â‚¹1 lakh (â‚¹100,000) and gave me a cheque dated 20th April 2016. He promised to pay but couldn’t. I tried depositing the cheque on 22nd April, 24th May, and 20th June but it bounced each time due to insufficient funds. I’ve read online that I needed to send a legal notice within 30 days of the cheque bouncing and then file a criminal case within 30 days if payment wasn’t made. It’s been more than three months since the last bounce (23rd June 2016), and today is 27th September. Should I deposit the cheque again? Is it necessary to have it bounce three times? What options do I have now?

I deposited a cheque of ₹8,000 into my bank account on May 2nd, 2016. Unfortunately, it bounced due to insufficient funds in the payer’s account. When I contacted him, he gave me vague excuses. He did return half the money within 20 days of the bounce, but the remaining ₹4,000 is still outstanding.
