My wife and I have been travelling to the UK for the past 5 years to visit our three children who live there. Our eldest daughter is a UK citizen, our son is settled, and our younger daughter has a work permit. Weâ€™ve been visiting regularly since 2011, and recently applied for a 10-year long-term visa. However, our application was refused. The visa officer said we’ve been staying longer than the time we mentioned in our application. For instance, we stated we’d stay for 30 days, but ended up returning to India after 5 months. Even though weâ€™ve never exceeded the 180-day limit mentioned on the UK Home Office website, our application was rejected without any chance to appeal. What should we do now? Should we try submitting a new application?

A year ago, two friends, let’s call them Amit and Bhavya, started a school. They appointed me, Chandan, as the principal and another friend, Divya, also worked there. We all invested some money in the school. Amit and Bhavya needed a school bus, so they asked Chandan and Divya to provide blank cheques with promissory notes. They used these cheques to borrow money from a financier. Sadly, the school had to shut down due to lack of permissions and low fees. Now, Amit and Bhavya are demanding their entire investment back, blaming us for the school’s failure. They haven’t even paid salaries for the last 8 months! I have all the evidence, including a message from Andhra Bank about a cheque for Rs. 5 lakh being received. Though we never took any money from them or the financier, they are claiming we are responsible. There was no formal partnership agreement between us. Now, they are threatening legal action. I’ve been facing serious issues like cheating, extortion, assault, trespassing, harassment and blackmail. The local police wouldn’t file a complaint (FIR). Even the police commissioner refused. So, I’m thinking of filing a private complaint under sections 200/156(3) of CrPC with the Magistrate. But local lawyers charge a lot – â‚¹10,000 for juniors and â‚¹15,000 for seniors, which I can’t afford.Can I, as a citizen, directly submit a private complaint to the Magistrate without hiring a lawyer? Or is it mandatory to have a lawyer when filing such a complaint? I’d really appreciate any guidance. Thanks!

My wife and I were close to separating, but thankfully, things were resolved amicably. However, knowing her temper and tendency to be self-centered, I fear things could escalate again. We’ve covered all the marriage expenses without any financial contribution from her family. Yet, she remains dissatisfied. She’s simply not driven and doesn’t seem to care much. Before things get complicated, I want to clear everything legally. I’m planning to discuss with her family what we’ve given them and vice versa, putting it down in writing.
