My father, a government teacher, sold our ancestral property and bought a new one in my mother’s name. He’s not close to me and gave land to my sister and brother-in-law near their home, which is now theirs. He says he wants to give all the property to my sisters and nothing to me. He’s now planning to sell the new property too. I fear he’ll leave me with nothing and even sell our remaining ancestral land, a single acre. I’ve tried talking to him, but he says it’s his property and he can do what he wants. He even took a loan of â‚¹12 lakhs from the bank. My brother-in-law is threatening me. I’m scared. What can I do? I’ve rented out my ground floor apartment in a residential complex. From day one, my tenant has been dealing with unbearable noise from the basement pumps. Other neighbours are also facing the same issue. I immediately contacted the association office seeking a solution, but it’s been over 3 months and nothing concrete has been done. My grandfather passed away leaving ancestral land in Dwarahat, Almora, Uttarakhand. The land records show all inheritors, including myself. My grandfather had four sons, all deceased. We, his 12 grandsons, are now the rightful heirs. The property is divided into separate plots across the Tehsil. My share is 12.5%. While the family divided the property amongst themselves, it was never officially registered. Now, one cousin, holding a 4.2% share, has begun selling land in a prime location without consulting the rest of the family. He sold two plots originally allotted to my father during the informal partition. I protested this sale but was told by the Tehsildar that any shareholder can sell their land without needing consent from others, as long as it’s within their allocated share. Is this legal? How can I safeguard my portion of the land from further sales? Is it possible for me to register my share of the plots in my name?
