We got married in India seven years ago, but with everything going on, we forgot to register it officially. Now we’re Australian citizens and want to understand our legal standing. Since we don’t have a marriage certificate, are we considered married in Australia? Does this mean we can’t get a divorce if needed? If we want to avoid problems in both India and Australia, should we get a divorce even though we haven’t been formally married? And most importantly, can we remarry in the future?
