Four months ago, I had a small accident. My car’s back door brushed against a motorcycle, causing the rider to fall. I took him to the government hospital where he received treatment for minor injuries. I offered to pay for the damage to his motorcycle, but his relatives arrived and kept me waiting for hours without revealing their demands. Feeling unsafe, I left. A few days later, traffic police visited and asked me to come to the station with my vehicle. They completed some formalities like getting clearance from the RTO and made me sign a bond for my vehicle’s release. They said I just have to pay a fine in court when they call me again. What will happen next? Will paying the fine close the case? I have third-party insurance. Can they add more charges or file further complaints? Please advise.

You will likely be summoned to court to face charges related to the accident, including negligence and causing hurt. While paying the fine may resolve the immediate issue, it doesn’t automatically close the case. The injured party or their family could still file a separate civil claim for damages, even if you have third-party insurance coverage.
