My grandfather received land documents, the Chitta and Adangal, from the government over 5 decades ago. When I contacted the Village Administrative Officer (VAO), he said the Chitta is outdated and can’t be used for a new Patta. But the new Patta doesn’t include my grandfather’s name. I need to find out how the ownership changed and who sold our land. Can I get my land back if I apply to the authorities? Please advise.

You have a legitimate claim to the land based on your grandfather’s Chitta and Adangal. You should file an application with the Tahsildar to investigate the change in ownership and seek a new Patta in your name. You should also consider consulting a lawyer to understand your legal rights and options.
