My father recently passed away, and the house is now in my mother’s name. One of my siblings is living in the house alone and conducting a business without my mother’s or our consent. We’ve informed the local authorities and the police about this, but they haven’t responded. Can my mother legally stop this sibling from inheriting the property? What steps can we take to resolve this situation?

Under Indian law, your mother has the right to possess and control the property as it is in her name. Your sibling’s unauthorized occupation and business activity can be challenged legally. You can file a civil suit for eviction and restraining the business operation, and seek police assistance to enforce the court order.
