My court marriage in April 2016 hasn’t worked out. I’m unhappy and want to move on, but not with a formal divorce. Is it possible to end this marriage without going through the legal process and start a new life with someone else? Are there records kept for court marriages that could help with this? And if I do remarry, can I apply for a marriage certificate later?
Indian law requires a legal divorce to end a marriage, even if it was a court marriage. While there are no formal records for court marriages, the marriage would likely be registered with the registrar, making it difficult to hide. Remarrying without dissolving your current marriage is illegal and can have serious legal consequences.
