Multiple petitions have reached the Calcutta High Court demanding an independent, court-monitored investigation into an alleged rape at South Kolkata Law College. The incident follows closely after the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital, sparking public outrage. The petitions also seek stricter security measures across college campuses. A division bench of Justices Soumen Sen and Smita Das De has scheduled the matter for hearing on Thursday. According to the complaint, on June 25, three men allegedly dragged the victim to different locations within the college and finally to the guard’s room, where they sexually assaulted her. The accused reportedly recorded the act and threatened the victim against speaking out. Kolkata Police acted swiftly and arrested all three accused, along with the security guard. A local court granted four-day police custody for the accused.

In response, the West Bengal government formed a nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police to investigate the case. The case has intensified public demand for stronger campus safety and a transparent legal process.
