We’re a middle-class family who bought our home 30 years ago. Back then, the bathroom was built outside the house and wasn’t included in the property documents. We were told verbally that it was ours. For the past 30 years, we’ve been using this bathroom. Now, the owners are claiming it’s theirs because it’s on their papers, even though it’s not on ours. It’s just a small space, about 5 by 5 feet. We have no alternative and no space to build another bathroom. They’re constantly pressuring us to give up the bathroom. What should we do?

You can try to claim adverse possession based on your continuous, open, and undisturbed use of the bathroom for over 30 years. This would require evidence proving your long-term usage. It’s advisable to consult a lawyer to understand your legal options and rights regarding the bathroom.
