Namaste! I’m a Hindu from Hyderabad, working in IT, and dreaming of becoming a full-time farmer. I’m looking to buy agricultural land in Karnataka. My family, including my parents and grandparents, has no prior agricultural background, and our total income is under 20 lakhs.
1. Would I be eligible to purchase agricultural land in Karnataka?
2. If I need permission from the Deputy Commissioner, how challenging would it be to obtain it with my background?
3. Is Malabar Neem (Melia Dubia) considered a plantation crop in Karnataka, allowing me to grow it exclusively on the land?

Under Karnataka’s Land Reforms Act, you would need the Deputy Commissioner’s permission to purchase agricultural land since you have no prior agricultural background. Obtaining this permission may be challenging as the focus is on protecting land for farmers and preventing non-agricultural interests from acquiring it. While Malabar Neem (Melia Dubia) isn’t listed as a plantation crop in Karnataka, its cultivation may be subject to specific regulations and require permissions.
