My grandfather passed away on November 1st, 1986, leaving behind his self-acquired house. He had three children: my father and his two sisters. Sadly, my father passed away on June 1st, 2012. Can my father’s sisters and their children claim a share in the house?

Under Indian law, your father inherited a one-third share of the house from your grandfather. Since your father passed away, his share would have passed on to his legal heirs, including you. Your father’s sisters and their children would not have any claim on the property as they were not direct heirs of your grandfather.
