My father-in-law wants to divide his ancestral property into three parts, giving one part each to my husband and his brother, and keeping one for himself. He says he won’t make my husband or his brother the nominee for his share and can do whatever he wants with it. We’re okay with him enjoying his share while he’s alive, but we want it to go to my husband and his brother after he passes. What can we do to ensure this happens?

Under Indian law, your father-in-law has the right to dispose of his share of the property as he wishes. However, you can suggest creating a Will specifying that his share will pass to your husband and his brother upon his death. This would provide legal assurance of their inheritance, though it’s advisable to consult a legal professional for personalized advice and proper documentation.
