I’m planning to gift a property to a close friend, but I’m not sure how to go about it. I’m married, and I want to make sure my wife’s rights are protected. Can I gift the property through a will or a direct gift?

Under Indian law, you can gift property directly to your friend. However, since you’re married, your wife’s consent is necessary for the transfer of property as it forms part of your joint marital property. Gifting through a will is also an option but it will take effect only after your death.
