My sister’s husband was recently involved in a terrible accident while riding his bike. He was hit by a car, leaving him with serious injuries. He’s currently fighting for his life in a private hospital, slowly recovering. The car driver, unfortunately, ran away from the scene. A Member of Parliament, who witnessed the incident, thankfully rescued him. The accident made it to the news the next day, and an FIR was filed at the police station. The police summoned both parties for a settlement, but claimed the mistake was on my relative’s side and offered a paltry sum of ₹60,000 as compensation from the car owner. My brother-in-law has two young daughters, and his future is uncertain.

Under Indian law, the police cannot determine fault or offer compensation. The accident should be investigated thoroughly, and the fleeing driver must be apprehended. The family should seek legal counsel to pursue a fair compensation claim, considering the serious injuries and future implications.
