We leased a plot of land in 1995 and moved to a different city in 2000, leaving a caretaker to manage the property. The caretaker started claiming ownership, leading to a dispute. We reached out to the landlord for help, and with their assistance and police intervention, the caretaker was removed and the property was secured. In 2008, the landlord had us sign a document stating we were leaving the property, but we didn’t fully read it. This document claims we haven’t paid rent or utilities and now we are liable for all unpaid dues with interest, and the lease agreement is still active. We received a notice in 2015 demanding payment of 1 crore rupees.
