I bought a house in August 2015. A tenant has been living there for the past 16 years. Before buying, I informed the tenant and put an advertisement in the newspaper asking anyone with any issues to come forward within 2 weeks. Now the tenant isn’t paying rent or moving out. What should I do? If I go to court, how long will it take? I’ve already complained to the SDM and SP, but there’s no action.

You can file an eviction suit in the appropriate court. As per the Transfer of Property Act, you have the right to evict the tenant as you are the legal owner. However, the court process can take several months to years depending on the specific case and the court’s workload.
