My wife, who is 41 and works as an Assistant at LIC of India in Karnal, has been with the company for 21 years. We have a daughter in 10th grade and twin sons who are 5 years old. Recently, the Supreme Court ruled that central government employees can take 2 years of paid leave to care for children under 18. Since LIC doesn’t have a similar policy, we’re hoping to get this benefit as well. Employee rights should be the same across all government departments, right? Our branch manager rejected our request saying there’s no such rule in LIC. What are our options?

While the Supreme Court ruling applies to central government employees, LIC is a public sector undertaking, not directly under the central government. Therefore, the ruling may not be directly applicable to LIC employees. However, you can explore options like approaching the LIC management, seeking legal advice, or raising the issue through employee unions to advocate for a similar policy.
