I’ve been working in a BPO company in Navi Mumbai for a few months. Recently, my current employer told me I need to find a new job because my previous employer, where I worked for 4 years, claimed I was let go due to integrity issues. This isn’t true – I resigned and have a relieving letter and full and final settlement. Now, my current employer is pressuring me to quit. How can I protect my job here and what can I do about my former employer spreading false information?

Your previous employer’s claim is defamatory and you can file a defamation suit against them. You can also present your relieving letter and settlement to your current employer to prove the inaccuracy of the information. However, Indian law doesn’t mandate employers to retain employees in such situations, so your current employer can still choose to let you go.
