I quit my job without giving a month’s notice, and agreed to pay for it. My contract says I need to give two months’ notice if I’m not confirmed, or pay if I leave. They offered me confirmation after I resigned, then asked for two months’ pay. They’re also charging 15% interest, which wasn’t in the contract. Is this legal?

While your contract requires two months’ notice or payment for leaving without it, the interest charge is likely illegal. Indian law does not typically allow for interest charges on notice period payments unless explicitly stated in the contract. However, the company’s claim for the two-month payment might be valid, even after offering confirmation, if your resignation occurred before the confirmation process was complete.
