My family in Kerala, a Catholic Christian household, is planning to divide our ancestral property between my brother and me. We have two houses: one inherited from my grandfather, registered in my father’s name, and another built by my father, registered in my mother’s name. My father wants to give his share to my brother and my mother’s share to me. However, I’m concerned my mother might change her mind later. What kind of agreement should I ask my father to create to ensure my inheritance is secure?

You should request your father to execute a registered Will, bequeathing his share of the inherited property to your brother and your mother’s share to you. Additionally, you should ask your mother to execute a registered Will, bequeathing her share of the property to you. This will ensure your inheritance is secure even if your mother changes her mind later.
