My case moved from Hyderabad to Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. The court in Hyderabad returned my original cheque and promissory note after taking photocopies. My lawyer in Nellore says these documents should have stayed with the Hyderabad court and been sent with the case file. Is he right?

Your lawyer is likely correct. Under Indian law, original documents forming part of the case are generally retained by the court and transmitted with the case file when it’s transferred. The Hyderabad court should have sent the original documents along with the case file to Nellore.
