I’m a wedding photographer in Delhi. I agreed to a contract for a wedding shoot, taking half the payment upfront with the rest due after delivery. My client paid half in cash and half by cheque, but the cheque bounced the next day! Now they won’t answer my calls, and won’t give me back my hard drives with the photos. We had a contract, but they never signed it. What can I do to get my payment and my photos back? Is this a lost cause?

You have a strong case. Even without the signed contract, you can file a civil suit for breach of contract and to recover the unpaid balance. You can also seek an injunction to force the client to return your hard drives. Consult a lawyer immediately for the best course of action.
