I gave Mr. XYZ a cheque for Rs. 2,50,000 which bounced. He filed cases against me under Sections 138 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code. The Section 138 case is now in the evidence stage. Mr. XYZ wants to settle the matter for Rs. 2,00,000 in cash. I want to pay him in installments over 12 months and he’s agreed. What legal steps can I take to get relief from this situation? Please advise.

You can approach the court where the Section 138 case is pending and request a compromise settlement. Present the agreement with Mr. XYZ outlining the installment plan, and seek the court’s approval. This will legally bind both parties to the agreed terms and potentially prevent further legal action.
