In her keynote address at the India Conference 2024 organized by the American Bar Association (ABA), Justice Hima Kohli advocates the pivotal role of collaborative efforts between India and the USA, particularly in judicial cooperation, to spur economic development. Highlighting the theme of the conference, ‘Role of the Judiciary and the Rule of Law in Advancing Economic Development,’ Justice Kohli delved into the intricate relationship between legal frameworks, judicial actions, and economic stability.

Justice Kohli stressed that the partnership between India and the USA presents a significant opportunity to bolster economic growth through judicial collaboration and mutual adherence to the rule of law. By focusing on key areas such as legal certainty, dispute resolution, property rights protection, and digital transformation, both nations can create a conducive environment for innovation and economic prosperity.

Drawing parallels with landmark cases and legal precedents, Justice Kohli outlined the judiciary’s pivotal role in upholding justice, fostering economic growth, and safeguarding individual rights. She underscored the importance of interpreting existing laws in light of evolving societal norms and the judiciary’s responsibility in ensuring a fair and equitable legal framework.

Furthermore, Justice Kohli highlighted the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on social dynamics and emphasized the need for collective efforts to address the ethical and legal implications of AI-driven technologies.

With a comprehensive analysis of the interplay between the judiciary and economic development, Justice Kohli’s address serves as a guiding framework for fostering collaboration between India and the USA to drive sustainable economic growth.
