My husband and I are Hindu. We own a house that’s registered in my father-in-law’s name, but the money for it came from my husband. Now we’re selling it – how much of the sale proceeds can we rightfully claim?

As the house is registered in your father-in-law’s name, he is legally the owner. Your husband can claim his contribution towards the purchase price based on proof of payment. The sale proceeds will be divided proportionally based on ownership, unless a different agreement was made in writing.
