My grandfather, who passed away years ago, divided his ancestral property in Alibaug, Raigad, amongst his three brothers. They each paid the necessary fees and registered their ownership in 1962. Now, after almost 55 years, my father is questioning the fairness of this division, alleging that his uncles might have cheated him out of his rightful share. Is there a time limit for challenging such a property distribution, and if so, what is it?

In India, there’s a limitation period for challenging property distribution. The Limitation Act of 1963 sets this limit, typically at 12 years from the date the property was registered. Since the registration occurred in 1962, the limitation period for challenging the division would have expired long ago, making it unlikely your father can contest it now.
