My grandfather had two marriages. My father was born from his first marriage, but his mother passed away soon after. He later remarried, and I have three uncles and an aunt from this marriage. My father had a strained relationship with my grandfather and stepmother after his second marriage, so he lived separately with my mother. Sadly, my father passed away in 1996, followed by my mother in 2005. I also don’t have a good relationship with my grandfather. He inherited property from my great-grandfather. What are my rights to this ancestral property?

As the son of your grandfather’s first marriage, you are a legal heir to the ancestral property inherited by your grandfather under the Hindu Succession Act. However, your share will be divided among your grandfather’s legal heirs, including your uncles, aunt, and possibly your stepmother. You should consult a lawyer to understand the specifics of your inheritance rights and the division process.
