My father, uncle, and aunt own a large piece of land together. Dad wants to divide it into three separate plots, one for each of them. However, my uncle and aunt are dragging their feet, and they’re acting like they have control over the entire property. They won’t sign the necessary documents to divide the land. What legal steps can my father take to get his share quickly? He wants to either sell it or build something on it. We’re Hindu and Punjabi, and he needs this sorted out soon.

Your father can file a partition suit in the civil court seeking division of the land. The court can compel your uncle and aunt to cooperate in dividing the property. Alternatively, your father can attempt to resolve the issue through mediation or arbitration to expedite the process.
