My father passed away in 1999, leaving behind a plot in HUDA under his name. I was just 17 then. Recently, HUDA sent a notice asking for an installment payment. Through an RTI request, I discovered the current owners of the plot. However, the reply didn’t mention my father’s name. Can I claim ownership of the plot now?

You may be able to claim ownership of the plot. Since your father passed away in 1999, you became the legal heir to the property as per the Indian Succession Act. However, the absence of your father’s name in the RTI reply needs further investigation. You should consult a lawyer and provide them with the RTI reply and other relevant documents to determine your legal standing and how to proceed with claiming ownership.
