My father passed away in 1995, before the 2005 law came into effect. He had acquired some property during his lifetime. Can his only surviving daughter claim a share in this property? There hasn’t been any division of the property yet.

Yes, your father’s only surviving daughter has a right to claim a share in the property. Under the Indian Succession Act, 1925, which was applicable in 1995, a daughter is entitled to inherit property from her deceased father. As there has been no division of the property, she can file a claim for her share.
