My father-in-law prepared a will about 7-9 years ago. We haven’t received any information or a copy of it. We suspect we might not be getting any share because of his first wife’s only son, and we’ve been estranged from the family by my step-mother. How can I obtain a copy of the will? My father-in-law passed away in 2016. We are a Hindu Brahmin family. His first wife had three children (one son and two daughters) and passed away 40 years ago. His second wife (my mother-in-law) has five sons and three daughters. She is still alive.

You can file a petition in the appropriate court under the Indian Succession Act, 1925, seeking a copy of the will. The court can order the executor or the legal representative of your father-in-law to produce a copy of the will. You should also consider seeking legal advice from a lawyer to explore your inheritance rights and ensure they are protected.
