My father has lived in a room in a Mumbai chawl near Vidyavihar for the past 35 years. We have all the necessary documents, but my father and his brother’s voter ID share the same address. Due to this, my room is classified as “A Patra”. Can I legally fight with the BMC to secure ownership of my father’s room? I need legal advice. I am Hindu.

Under Indian law, a “Patra” room does not automatically imply lack of ownership. You can challenge the BMC’s classification by presenting proof of your father’s continuous residence, occupancy, and payment of taxes for 35 years. A lawyer can help you file an appeal or legal action to establish your father’s rightful ownership of the room.
