My father had two wives. From his first wife, he has a daughter who is now married. From his second wife, he has two sons and a daughter who is still unmarried. He left the right to manage his property to his second wife in his will, but also named some property for my mother’s sustenance and for my married sister. How will this property be divided, sir? It’s been five and a half years since my father passed away, and this dispute hasn’t been resolved, causing a lot of stress and wasted money.

Under Indian law, your father’s will is generally legally valid. Your stepmother will inherit the right to manage the property, but your mother and sister will receive the specific property allocated to them in the will. A court will determine the division of property based on the will’s terms and applicable inheritance laws, potentially requiring mediation to resolve the dispute.
